Connecting
an existing vision to your work
- Have
you asked some of your colleagues how they make the link?
- Is
your organizational vision hard to relate to for some reason?
- Can
you develop a departmental vision that is more concrete and immediate
and which supports the corporate vision?
- If
you can't identify with the corporate vision, create your own, with
your team, that everyone can get excited about.
- Who
are your key internal customers or stakeholders?
- How
well do you know their needs? What new services can you offer them to
better help them be successful?
- Have
you examined your team's role descriptions to rephrase them in terms
that are more clearly in line with the vision?
- When
you review the performance of team members do you ask them to explain
how what they are doing supports the vision?
- When
you discuss immediate priorities with your team, can you justify your
priority ranking in relation to the vision?
- Can
you set targets for your team that move you closer to your vision?
- If
you cannot align your team so that measurable progress towards achieving
the vision is possible then the vision may be too abstract.
