Your motivation as a resource

  • Your motivation can be your most powerful resource if you are highly motivated and channel it effectively.
  • Motivation is often underestimated as a strength, compared to skills.
  • But strong motivation can overcome all sorts of weaknesses.
  • Many handicapped people achieve great things - Beethoven was deaf.
  • People have succeeded in their own businesses with no demonstrable skills other than sheer determination and self belief.
  • How many occasions can you think of where you were highly motivated?
  • How well did you sustain your motivation over the time required?
  • What was it about you or the situation that made you so motivated?
  • How have you shown the same qualities in other situations?
  • What beliefs do you have about yourself and your ability to control your own destiny that could be considered major strengths?
  • How do you psyche yourself up so you're motivated when necessary?
  • How can you do this now and apply it to your present situation?
  • How do you keep going through lengthy projects, setbacks and obstacles?
  • How do you channel your motivation, staying focused to achieve your aims?
  • When not so motivated, what things do you say to yourself to get going?
  • What things do you say to yourself that undermine your motivation?
  • How can you ensure you tell yourself more positive than negative things?
  • How can you ensure that strong motivation does not become stubborness, obstinancy or blindness to reality?
  • To motivate yourself, remind yourself regularly why it's important to you and what strengths you have to get there.
  • Feed yourself positive messages about why you can do it and how you can overcome all obstacles in your path.
