Change
too rapid?
- If
you feel that change is happening too fast to have a vison, chances
are you also feel that everyone else is driving change but you.
- Is
it a feeling of having no control over events?
- Does
this mean that others are leading and you are following?
- Alternatively,
are you driving change yourself in so many different directions that
no one vision ties them altogether?
- Could
you formulate a separate vision for each of these directions or markets?
When you have done this, does a theme emerge?
- If
you are indeed following rather than leading, where would you like to
be? How could you seize the lead? And would a vision help?
- If
you feel that change is too rapid, you might be trying to formulate
a vision that is too specific, hence too soon obsolete.
- Can
you formulate a vision that is less specific but not so nebulous as
to lack meaning? A useful vision must be concrete enough to enable you
to measure progress towards achieving it.
- If
you stay in follower mode, you will always feel left behind. Changes
will always be unexpected and you will never feel in control.
- Can
you divide your time and resources into two streams - one that follows
and one that tries to carve out a leadership position?
- This
way you won't feel that you are falling behind while your attention
is turned to thinking through how to lead.
