  • Leading teams is not the same as managing them.
  • Everything to do with developing people and getting the best performance out of them is a management activity.
  • This is because managers need to make the best use of all resources to achieve an existing direction.
  • Conversely, leaders need to develop new directions.
  • Being a team leader, therefore, is not about being their manager.
  • Leading a team means inspiring the team to change direction.
  • You can lead a team in either of two ways:
    1. By advocating new directions to your team.
    2. By fostering innovation in your team.
