Too
introverted?
- Introverts
prefer a small circle of close friends or immediate colleagues.
- Becoming
more outgoing does not require being the life and soul of the party.
- It
is not necessary to become an entertainer.
- But
can you build on something you are already doing?
- How
have you built relationships with those you already know well?
- What
can you adapt from that approach to use with other people?
- Is
there a customer whose needs you try to meet? Your boss?
- Do
you agree that you are effectively running your own business in the
sense that you are offering services to at least one customer?
- Do
you try to understand your customer's needs better or do you expect
him/her to come to you? If the latter, how successful can your business
be?
- What
other key stakeholders could support you in your personal ambitions?
- How
could you get involved in their pet projects?
- When
asked for help, do you say ''That's not my job.''?
- Could
you work more closely with people without having to be best friends?
- Not
everyone - just a handful who could be of most benefit to your career.
- Getting
promoted is partly about getting elected - for that you need to cultivate
a wider support group than your boss or a few colleagues.
- Focus
on those with influence - look for common interests, business and personal.
