Delegating
to the less competent
- This
is reality where, to save costs, low skilled people are hired and no
one has the slightest clue but the manager.
- Is
this an effective, long term way to operate? Or is this only a short
term solution?
- What
can you do to change it?
- In
the short term, how can you make the most of it? Can you initiate a
longer term strategy at the same time? Can you train or hire more qualified
staff?
- Can
you start by coaching and delegating by degrees, starting small and
developing people in accordance with their ability to grow?
- Can
you see this time spent as an investment in a better, long term future?
- Alternatively,
you might have pretty good people working for you already but you might
be keeping them in their place by not letting them develop.
- Do
you make people feel stupid for their mistakes - and in public?
- Do
you come across as the only person who has the right answers?
- Or,
do you patiently draw solutions out of your team, being supportive when
they are off track but genuinely trying?
What do you feel drives you to operate as you are?
- What
can you change in your approach?
- Can
you avoid concluding that it's someone else's fault?
- Even
if others push us in a certain direction, we can always ask ourselves
what can WE do differently.
