Vision and Leadership

Why is vision a development need for you? 

• My workstyle is fairly reactive, so I don't look very far ahead.
• I feel that change is too rapid to develop a lasting or long term vision.
• I am internally focused and can't keep up with market changes.
• I am a practical person. For me a vision is too abstract.
• I see the need but don't know how to develop it.
• We have a vision, but I don't connect it to our work very well.
• I don't feel motivated to create a vision. I don't see the need.

Why bother having a vision?

• A well articulated vision provides both direction and motivation.
• It helps you decide priorities, how to invest your time and other resources for the best possible return.
• Without clear direction, you could be driven by urgencies that don't matter in the long run.
  
• Compare it to having a vision of retiring at age 55. If you are now 45 and have not saved much for your retirement, you would need to start investing differently than if you had already saved a lot.
• Without a vision, you will inevitably be following the lead of your competitors. Do you want to follow or lead them?
• With clarity of direction, your team should waste less time, work more productively and achieve much more.
• It is hard to measure progress if you don't know where you are going. Without a feeling of progress, people become de-motivated.
