Your Experience
Written by Mitch McCrimmon
What is your unique work experience?
- What experiences can you draw upon to help you in the future?
- A problem, by definition, is something we cannot immediately solve.
- It's outside our past experience, at least in part.
- For example, you've never experienced a particular sort of change.
- Initially it might have you stumped.
- But are you focusing on what's unfamiliar about it?
- Can you see what it has in common with other jams you've got through?
- How did you get through them?
- What personal strengths worked for you?
- How can you apply those strengths to the present challenge?
- Beware of getting blocked by reasons why you can't do something.
- Instead, ask yourself: ''What have I done before that I can apply here?''
- Every new situation has something in common with your past experience - unless you are suddenly tranported to an alien planet!
- The key is attitude - thinking negatively is self defeating.
- Positive thinking inspires you to scan your experience for new options.
- It's about believing that you have the solution within yourself.
- This is true even if you involve someone else - your experience includes successful problem solving with others.
